Boxershorts?

At Kløver, we sell boxershorts, but what exactly are they? And what are the general characteristics of boxershorts? Furthermore, how are Kløver’s boxershorts different, and why do we consider them unisex? You can read all about it in this article.

Boxershorts were originally made in 1925 by Jacob Golomb, who was the owner of Everlast. The idea behind them, as the name suggests, was that they were intended for boxers. Here, Jacob Golomb replaced the leather strap from the existing boxing shorts with elastic and called them boxer trunks.

They later became known as boxershorts and were recognized as a more comfortable pair of underwear compared to, for example, boxer briefs or tights. This is due to their loose fit, which allows for optimal airflow and freedom of movement, making them the perfect choice for those who prioritize comfort above all else. Boxershorts became especially popular in the 1990s. Although the first boxershorts were invented in the 1920s, they experienced a significant rise in popularity in the 90s, particularly among young men. This popularity was reinforced by fashion icons and pop culture.

Although boxershorts were originally primarily used by men, at Kløver, we aim to create a culture where boxershorts can be worn by both men and women. It’s up to the individual whether they want to use them as underwear, regular shorts, sleepwear, or something entirely different.

Boxershorts Design:

Boxershorts are loose-fitting underwear typically made of lightweight and breathable fabrics like cotton, polyester, or a blend of these materials. They have a distinctive wide fit, which offers freedom of movement and comfort. Some of the key features of boxershorts include:

  • Loose fit: Unlike snug-fitting underwear like briefs or trunks, boxershorts have a spacious fit, allowing for better airflow and comfort.
  • Length: Boxershorts cover more of the thighs than other types of underwear and typically end mid-thigh.
  • Fly: Most boxershorts have a fly in the front, which can either be closed with buttons, snaps, or simply left open, where the fabric sufficiently overlaps.
  • Elastic waistband: Boxershorts have an elastic waistband that ensures they stay securely around the waist.
  • Balloon seat: Some designs have an extra panel at the back to allow better movement, especially when bending forward.

Kløver’s boxershorts are made according to custom measurements, which means they have the fit that we in the Kløver family consider optimal. They are made of 100% cotton with a fit where the optimal length ends about 15 cm above the knee, and they are slightly wider than you typically see. Additionally, they are equipped with buttons at the fly and have an elastic waistband. At Kløver, we also do our best to create new variations of colors, patterns, and materials. We reinforce this principle by supporting the environment. All our boxershorts are made from deadstock fabrics, which is a term for surplus textiles from previous productions. This means that we reuse materials that are already in circulation rather than burdening the environment with new production. Naturally, this also creates an exclusivity in each collection since it limits us to producing only as much as the available fabric allows, and we cannot recreate an identical collection again. Therefore, each collection is a one-time collection, and there will be no restocks. So if you want a pair from a specific collection, it’s important to act quickly – they won’t be available again once they’re sold out.
